2012 Employee Housing

Employees of Prospectors Historic Pizzeria & Ale House have three (3) housing options. These options include basic rooms at Healy Base Camp, rustic Cabins at the Denali Park Salmon Bake grounds or campsites at Mt. McKinley RV and Campground. All of our housing options are limited and are available on a first come, first served basis.  All housing options include access to our Base Camp Meal Plan.

Housing

Most of our employees live at our Base Camp housing complex. Base Camp is located in the wonderful year round town of Healy Alaska, 10-miles North of The Denali National Park entrance. Base Camp is a wonderful collegial community that houses up to 90 employees. In addition to basic housing, Base Camp has an Employee Recreation Room and a new private shower house. For most employees, Base Camp will be your home away from home while working in Denali.

Each room at Base Camp has 2 twin beds and basic amenities. Private toilets and showers are located in a nearby building. Rent at Base Camp includes Free WIFI. If you’re coming to Alaska with a friend, you can opt to room together. Otherwise, you will be assigned a roommate by the Camp Manager. As the season progresses you may swap roommates as long as it is approved by the Camp Manager.

Rent at Base Camp for 2011 is $11 per day which will be deducted from your paycheck. The daily rental fee includes one bed, use of the shower house, use of the Employee Recreation Room and a daily lumberjack continental breakfast in the Employee Recreation Room.  In addition, all residents at Base Camp receive free transportation to and from work, Denali National Park’s Visitor Center, the Canyon Business District and the Laundromat.

Base Camp Meal Card

Your rent at Base Camp will also include a Base Camp Meal Card, “The Best Meal Plan in Denali!” This employer subsidized meal card allows you to purchase up to two (2) hearty Alaskan meals per day at any of our restaurants:

(1)          The Denali Park Salmon Bake,

(2)          Prospectors Historic Pizzeria & Ale House or

(3)          The 49th State Brewing Co.

This is an opportunity to enjoy the same hearty Alaskan meals that our restaurant patrons enjoy.  The price for each meal is only $3 and must be paid at the time you order the meal.  Each meal will include your choice of one (1) soft drink, fountain juice, coffee or tea. Note that the meal cost cannot be deducted from you paycheck.

While most employers feed their employees a set meal at a set time, your Base Camp Meal Card allows you the flexibility to eat what you want, when you want. Most Denali area meal plans charge you on days that you don’t eat, like when you’re backpacking in the Park. With the Base Camp Meal Card, you only pay for what you eat. Meals are not transferable and cannot be shared.   Certain items such as King Crab Legs, Halibut and Dinner Entrees are not included in the meal plan.  Certain excluded items may be purchased at 50% of the menu price. With the Base Camp Meal Card, you have the freedom to eat well. For example, you may order a $13 burger, a $15 small pizza, a $16 salad or a $14 Nachos for only $2. Please note that all of our restaurants are extremely busy between 6pm-9pm during which time you will not be allowed to order food. You are also limited to a maximum of two (2) $2 meals per day. Additional meals may be purchased at standard menu prices. Meals may not be used or purchased together or in conjunction with any other offers.  All meals must be consumed on the premises unless management authorization is given to eat the meals off the premises.

The total daily cost of a bed at Base Camp with the Base Camp Meal Card will be $11-$15, depending upon whether one (1) or two (2) meals are purchased. The daily lumberjack continental breakfast is included in the rent.

Other Housing Options

In addition to Base Camp, the Salmon Bake classic employee housing complex is an option. This housing area consists of rustic cabins without heat or electricity. These cabins are located on the hillside directly behind the Salmon Bake and are within walking distance to the all area amenities. Rent for these cabins is $11 per day, which includes one bed, use of the private showers and up to three (3) meals per day at The Denali Park Salmon Bake (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Each meal will include your choice of one (1) soft drink, fountain juice, coffee or tea. Certain food items such as King Crab Legs, Halibut and Dinner Entrées are excluded. Generally, meals are to be consumed during normal breakfast, lunch and dinner hours. Note that the Denali Park Salmon Bake is extremely busy between the hours of 6pm-9pm and you will not be allowed to order food between these hours.  Employees choose this option to save money and be within walking distance to work and the Denali Park.
